The Highlights of My Week!
Hey y’all! I want to give you an update on the number of things that I am currently working on this week! It's a busy one.
1. The first episode of On Their Way’s Bonus Season comes out this Friday (wooo!). It features Emani Zaire (writer and founder of brownnsugababe.com) and it’s is pretty nifty, if I do say so myself. They read a piece of their work in the episode, which is something that I have wanted to add to the show after listening to an Audre Lorde interview where she does the same. I think it speaks to the kind of development that the show can see in the future. When it comes to creativity, I’ve never been one to be satisfied with the same formula, so I’m glad that Emani and I were able to organize this and I hope that when you listen to it you will like it as well. I'm also trying to figure out how people without work that can be read out loud, can show off their work. so if you have any ideas comment, send me an email (connect@withgoodco) or slide me a DM.
2. I am recording the third bonus episode this afternoon, and I am sending out request emails for the last two episodes later this week. Even though I haven’t been making podcasts for a long time (only 4 months!) I am still quite proud of the way my confidence has grown. The first season was essentially compiled of people I personally knew, and now I am “cold calling” people and booking interviews. That’s just a little observation I had about myself.
3. This week I am working on a bunch of final projects for class, and while I work on that I will be listening to “Have You Heard George’s Podcast” which was recommended in Nicole Hill’s PRX panel on Saturday. She said it was very good, so I’m happy to listen to it as I work on my various projects. (Sidenote: I recently had a creative breakthrough on a future WGC podcast I’m producing thanks to that same Nicole Hill panel, so top-notch all the way around.)
4. Lastly, I am currently producing my Senior Seminar Project, which is an audio adaptation of a full-length play that I wrote. While the adaptation is definitely more of a radio play than an audio drama*, it has only made me more excited and eager to prepare WGC for audio drama production! There are so many people and so much organizing and the process is so fun and fulfilling. I can, and have, literally sat in front of my computer for hours organizing schedules and budgets and editing scripts and it feels like the most natural and fun thing in the world. I feel so blessed that I am able to do this, and that I will be able to do more of this in the future.
(*When I say that it is more of radio play than an audio drama, I mean that the work has the pacing and conventions of a play. It was made with the theatrical medium in mind.)
Alright, that is what is going on in my week (the highlights anyway). Tell me what’s happening in yours as I would very much like to know. Remember, a new episode of #OnTheirWay comes out on November 27, 2020, you’ll be able to listen to it anywhere you get your podcasts.
